A dental practice in Eastbourne has joined forces with South East Water to encourage people to save water.

Brassey Avenue Dental Practice decided to join the cause during Smile Month. The members of the team gave out tooth brushing timers and information sheets to younger patients regarding ways to save water. The practice tried to remind all patients that turning the taps off while brushing your teeth can save a great deal of water.

Gemma Avory, from South East Water, stated that dentists are in an ideal position to talk to people about saving water and that encouraging people to turn the tap off when brushing their teeth will make a huge difference. It is estimated that you can waste up to 24 litres of water per day simply by leaving the taps running when you brush your teeth.

Avory added that Smile Month provided a fun and interesting way to educate kids, not only about oral hygiene but also about saving water. The message is also important for adults, as saving water can help to cut household bills.

Steve Williams, from Brassey Avenue Dental Practice said that the brushing timers are a very effective means of helping children to make sure that they clean their teeth thoroughly. He also added that the practice is always eager to spread messages about saving water and energy.

South East Water is also working with other community services and groups to try and encourage people to keep an eye on the amount of water they use. The area has experienced two very dry winters, which have contributed to drought.
