Eastbourne dental patients join parking row

Eastbourne-based patients are calling for a revision of the parking regulations that surround a dental practice in Langney Road.

The patients claimed that the double-yellow-line residents only parking system that surrounds the White House Dental Clinic reduces access to dental care for disabled and elderly people.

According to Judy Hanney, White House practice manager, and Dr Paulo Hanna, dental surgeon, dozens of people have been handed parking fines when unloading goods or picking up a sedated family member or friend.

One disabled driver, Alison Ozmen, 44, was given a parking ticket for leaving her car in a residents’ only bay.

Eighty-year-old Anthony Reide, who is also disabled, said that he couldn’t understand why he wasn’t allowed to park outside the clinic.

Dr Hanna said that he was fed up with the situation and claimed that it was ridiculous that so many people had received tickets for waiting just a few minutes while collecting a friend or relative.

An East Sussex County Council spokesperson, local parking authority, said that the council appreciated the local populations concern’s about access to the clinic and claimed that the current parking regulations were in place to prevent the junction from being obstructed.

However, they added that the council would be reviewing a new parking scheme at the beginning of 2010 and said that they would be asking local people how the restrictions had affected them.
