Charges for NHS dental treatment fall in to one of three bands:

Band 1, costing £16.50, includes an examinations, x-rays, advice, polishes and urgent care.

Band 2, price tag £45.60, incorporates Band 1 treatments with fillings, root canals and extractions.

Band 3 costs £198 and includes bands 1 and 2 and crowns, dentures, and bridges.

Jane Hawkard, director of strategy and market development at NHS East Riding, said that the local health service had invested an extra £2.8million to improve dentistry for people in the region.

She added that an additional 18,500 new NHS patients were treated in 2009 and said the NHS expand by a further 4,000 patients in the next two years.
