East Grinstead Dentist Returns To Work After Emergency Surgery

A popular dentist from East Grinstead has returned to work after undergoing emergency surgery to remove blood from his skull.

Jaspal Sandhu admitted that he was a “naughty boy” after ignoring symptoms for three days and said that he done the “typical man thing” and avoiding seeing his doctor after experiencing a splitting headache, which came and went, since March when he went to watch the rugby and ended up falling over. Mr Sandhu continued to work and train for a charity triathlon, ignoring the symptoms, until he was admitted to hospital at the end of April.

Mr Sandhu was advised to have emergency surgery after scans showed a build-up of blood in his skull; the surgery was carried out to release blood from the skull and prevent haemorrhage.

Mr Sandhu explained that he started “feeling really weird” a couple of days before the operation and could only lift his left arm half-way up, but he decided to go to an industry event, rather than seeing a doctor. At the event, he said he was “staggering around like a drunk” despite that fact that he had not drunk at all; eventually, his wife took him to hospital and he was told off by doctors and nurses who said that he should have sought help much earlier.

Mr Sandhu was advised to take a month to rest, but has since discharged himself and returned to work at High Street Dental Practice in East Grinstead. His son took his 19 staples out of his head, despite the fact that he is not qualified.

Mr Sandhu said that he is “fine” but disappointed that he will have to pull out of the charity triathlon, which he was planning to complete to raise funds for the Make a Wish Foundation.
