Durham Dental Team Visits Local Schools to Tackle Dental Decay

Sample News Big

A dental team from Durham is touring local school and nurseries to teach children about good dental health habits. Dr David Lamb and the team from Kingsgate Dental is supporting the government’s Sugar Smart campaign and trying to reduce the number of local kids affected by decay.

The team is visiting a number of primary schools in the area armed with giant teeth and brushes. Children take part in a number of fun and education activities during the sessions and the aim is to teach them about the impact of their diet on their oral health. Dr Lamb will also be showing the kids how to use their toothbrushes properly and answering questions about what happens when you go to the dentist.

Dr Lamb and the rest of the Kingsgate Dental team believe that it’s really important to get involved in the local community and to reach out to schools so that good dental health habits can be practiced at an early age. Targeting children will not only reduce rates of decay in the future, it will also help to save money on dental care.

One problem facing parents is confusion about sugar content. Many parents believe they are giving their children healthy treats when they buy dried fruit or smoothies, however many shop-bought products actually have hidden sugars. The aim of Dr Lamb’s sessions and the Sugar Smart campaign is to encourage parents and children to be aware of the sugar content in the foods and drinks they consume. Dr Lamb is also eager to promote regular trips to the dentist from an early age.
