Dumbarton Dental Receptionist Launches New Healthy Tea Range

Sample News Big

A dental receptionist from Dumbarton has launched a new range of healthy teas to make green tea more appealing to consumers.

Claire McCormick and her business partner, Sarahjane Duffy, have launched Teapotpourri after spotting a gap in the market for teas that have health benefits and taste delicious. Sarah and Claire both like drinking green tea, but realised that many people are put off by the bitter taste. With their new range, they aim to provide the same health benefits of drinking green tea with a superior taste.

The range uses stevia, a natural sweetener derived from plants that grow in South America, to make the drink more palatable and the pair has also chosen a range of flavours, including warm orange spice and soothing spearmint, to give tea drinkers some variation. Stevia is now widely used by major manufacturing brands, including Coca Cola, and provides a healthier substitute for sugar. Stevia doesn’t make green tea sweet, but it takes the bitterness away and enhances the taste.

Claire and Sarah stumbled across stevia at a similar time, even though they were hundreds of miles apart. Sarah’s dad was diagnosed with diabetes and she was researching healthier ways of eating without losing out on taste, while Claire was travelling in South America when she noticed small bottles of clear liquid dotted around café tables. They were filled with stevia and were used instead of the traditional sugar bowl.

The entrepreneurs set about working on their product and it is now available online and by the cup at a local café in Loch Lomond Shores. The pair is hoping for success this year as more and more people look for an alternative to their usual daily cuppa.

Claire is busy with the launch of Teapotpourri, but she continues to enjoy her work as a dental receptionist and hopes that move will have benefits for her colleagues and patients, as sugary tea and coffee are notorious causes of decay and tooth discolouration.
