Droitwich dentist accused of conspiring to defraud

A dentist from Droitwich has appeared in court after being accused of conspiring to defraud both patients and the NHS.

Dr Ikhlaq Hussain, who previously owned a practice on Blackfriars Road, Droitwich, is alleged to have charged patients unrealistic and inflated prices, as well as making fraudulent claims to the NHS department that handles and authorises payments to dentists. The crimes allegedly took place over a 5 year period, between 2002 and 2007.

Dr Hussain was also accused of trying to pervert the course of justice and falsifying information; however, he pleaded not guilty to these charges and denied both counts of conspiracy to defraud.

Birmingham Crown Court heard the details of Dr Hussain’s case, as well as the news of Dr Hussain’s business partner and fellow dentist, Dr Jaspal Singh Bachada, who admitted to charges brought against him relating to events at the Blackfriars Road surgery, which he had bought in 2002 with Dr Hussain. Dr Bachada had been treating NHS patients even though he was not permitted to do so at that time.

The prosecutor, Tim Hannam, told the court that both dentists had been greedy and had exploited the trust and authority given to them by the NHS; they took advantage not only of the system which gave them a job, but also of their patients. The case continues at Birmingham Crown Court.

I used to work for him, unfortunatley and he used to tell patients they were NHS but made them sign a white ‘independant’ payment form. So they were private patients in other words. He is the worst person i have ever worked for.

I am still registered at this practice, and know this story is not entirely accurate. Dr Hussain sold this practice over 2yrs ago, and has been under new management since.

This practice may have been sold on paper but it still belongs to Hussain and Bachada they just do not work from there anymore. They also own other dental practices, Friar st dentist and one in Bromsgrove.
