Discount plans better than insurance
Some Americans have said that discount dental plans are now far more superior to dental insurance.

For a routine six-monthly check-up including x-rays, tooth-cleaning, sealant application and one cavity filling costs $383 through insurance cover and $307 through a discount plan, a $76 difference.
It costs $179.95 to cover a family of four for a year with the discount plan. So if you signed-up for the plan, which would cover four twice annually visits to the dentist ($76 x 8 = $608) but have long term cover ($179.95) you would save your family $428.05 and you would get reduced rates for other cosmetic procedures including braces.
