A dental team from Devon has thrown itself into raising awareness for National Smile Month, which recently drew to a close.

The team from Torrington Dental Practice visited a local family attraction and arranged a range of events during the campaign, which ran from May 20th to June 20th, in order to encourage patients and local people to embrace the programme and take better care of their teeth and gums.

Children registered at the practice were given the chance to win tickets to a theme park by designing an Olympic medal or flag and adults were offered the opportunity to win an Oral-B electric toothbrush by simply answering a few questions about oral health.

The practice also offered children from a local nursery the chance to have a look around the practice and each child was given an information pack to take home with them.

Dental hygienist, Sabina Camber, dental nurse, Sarah Poole and oral health educator, Lisa Morris, spend the day at The Big Sheep and they were joined by Colin the Crocodile, the surgery mascot. The team gave away stickers, balloons, lucky dip prizes and teeth cleaning charts and spent time talking to parents and children about National Smile Month and oral hygiene. The team was eager to convey the key messages of the British Dental Health Foundation campaign, which were to brush the teeth twice a day for at least two minutes a day, avoid sugary foods and snacks and visit your dentist on a regular basis.
