A dental hygienist from Devizes successfully completed the London Marathon on Sunday, raising hundreds of pounds for charity.

Dental hygienist, Melanie Taylor, had previously said that Sunday’s race would be “her first and last marathon” but she admits that she has been bitten by the running bug and may attempt another race in the future. Ms Taylor crossed the line in a very respectable time of 6 hours 17 minutes, although she said that her time was “a bit embarrassing”; the hygienist was aiming to break the barrier at 5 hours.

Ms Taylor said that she experienced severe muscle aches and tiredness during the race, which slowed her down and she is hoping to sign up for next year’s race to improve on her time. After the race, she said she was relieved to finish but was suffering from aches and pains.

Melanie was running in aid of United Response, a charity, which helps people with mental health conditions, learning difficulties and physical disabilities. Although she found the race very hard, she really enjoyed the experience of the London Marathon and thanked the crowds for all her support; when she was struggling, shouts from spectators cheered her on and helped to get her round and she said that seeing her family really spurred her on to run faster and complete the race.
