Dereham practice expansion could create new NHS dental places

The owners of a private dental clinic in Dereham, Norfolk have said they will apply for an NHS contract if plans to expand the practice get the green light.

Toftwood Dental Practice currently offers private dental services. The owners of the Chapel Lane surgery have applied for planning permission to change the use of residential premises in Shipdham Lane. If the application is successful, the owners will apply for an NHS contract, using the existing practice to treat NHS patients. The new clinic in Shipdham Lane would become a private dental surgery.

The owners are buying a three-bedroom detached house on Shipdham Lane with a view to changing the use of the building to create a brand new dental surgery. The planning application outlines a series of changes, including adding parking at the rear of the premises.

A statement accompanying the application said that the practice team will encourage patients to make use of local public transport links and offer bicycle storage facilities. There are also plans to provide electric charging points in the future.

The front of the building would be modified to widen the driveway and create an accessible entrance. On the ground floor, there would be a treatment room, a waiting room and a reception area. The second bedroom on the ground floor would be converted into another surgery room for use in the future if the practice expands. The practice has also negotiated with Toftwood Social Club to rent two parking spaces during the week.

The application has been submitted to Breckland Council. A decision is expected by October 17th.
