Derbyshire dentists are celebrating National Smile Month safe in the knowledge that their registration with the Care Quality Commission is complete.

All 126 NHS practices in Derbyshire have now signed up with the CQC. The commission regulates practices in order to ensure patient safety and high standards of care. The CQC requires dentists to meet certain criteria and standards and there are five key areas, which include involvement and information, suitability of staff, quality and management, support, personalised care and treatment.

Keith Mann, head of Primary Care Contracts for NHS Derbyshire County, said that it was a very positive sign that dentists across the county are committed to improving NHS dental services and offering patients the best possible standards of care.

The trust is also continuing to operate the dental helpline, which provides information and advice about oral health matters and dental services in the area.
