Dentists submit plans to convert offices into new surgery in Carlisle

A firm of dental surgeons has submitted a planning application to change the use of offices in Carlisle.

The premises, which are located in Portland Square, are currently vacant. If the plans are approved, the dentists will convert office space into a new dental practice with training facilities. The grade II listed building boasts a prime position in the town centre, making it an ideal spot for local patients.

The application was submitted by Edenholme Building and Architectural Surveyors and outlines plans to enhance the exterior of the building, as well as adjusting the interior to “facilitate the customer experience.”

External work will focus on sprucing the building and its grounds up and will include revamping the windows and doors and clearing debris, which has accumulated over several years. Internally, the office space will be modified and modernised to make the premises comfortable and functional.

The statement that accompanies the application confirms plans to retain the existing access points and suggests that noise levels will be carefully controlled. New comfort cooling condensers will be placed in the rear yard.

These units will not be visible from the front of the building and they will operate on a timer to prevent noise at night.

The building was previously used as a registry office and has more recently been utilised for general office space. The premises have been vacant for some time.

If the plans get the green light, the owners of the dental firm are eager to get started on redevelopment plans as quickly as possible. More information about the new facility will be released in due course. Public consultation on the application is now open.
