Dentists: ‘Clean teeth can prevent flu’

Sample News Big

Oral health professionals have said that clean teeth can prevent flu from spreading.

California Dental Hygienists’ Association (CDHA) claims that good oral health habits can stop the H1N1 flu virus being spread.

The association is encouraging parents to teach their kids to brush their teeth correctly as this is more likely to kill the virus than washing hands regularly.

Dr Steven McConnell said that there is a misconception that children can’t develop gum disease but said they can and this disease can illness in other parts of the body.

He added that symptoms of gingivitis, like red, swollen or bleeding gums, can become a doorway for bacteria into your bloodstream.

An advocate for teaching kids on how to care for their own teeth, Dr McConnell uses a camera on the end of a wand to demonstrate to children which areas of the mouth they are cleaning well and the parts that need more attention.

A simple three step cleaning process can help preventing the spread of flu viruses and kill up to 99.99999% of germs. You have to completely decontaminate the room, and then prevent re-contamination with effective cleaners and sanitizers
