Dentists Issue Warning Over Tooth Whitening

Sample News Big

Dentists have issued a warning over the safety of tooth whitening, following an increase in popularity of whitening treatments thanks to television shows such as ‘The Only Way is Essex.’

The British Dental Association has warned the public against whitening services that are provided by practitioners without formal dental qualifications. The BDA claims that whitening treatments should only be provided by qualified dentists, however, they are currently being offered in beauty treatments and shopping malls across the country and people are risking their oral health to mimic the perfect pearly whites showcased by their favourite celebrities.

One dentist interviewed on the subject said that dentists have at least five years of training to be able to offer dental services, such as tooth whitening and it is therefore very dangerous to be allowing people who have attended a one-day course to offer whitening treatments.

In March a 41 year healthcare company director was prosecuted for providing whitening treatments without being registered and the BDA is calling for tougher restrictions to prevent complications and protect members of the public.
