Dental chain, Dentistry For You, has received thousands of calls after confirming two new practice openings in Portsmouth.

The company will open two new dental practices in the city after being chosen as the preferred NHS provider. The clinics will open in the spring. One of the practices will be based in the north of the city on Portsmouth Retail Park and the other will open in the south on Copnor Road.

News of the new dental practices has spread quickly among residents and staff fielded more than 3,000 calls in the first five days. The demand for NHS dental places is huge, with shortages dating back to 2019 when Colosseum Dental unexpectedly closed three central practices.

Dentistry For You is now working closely with NHS England and local communities to ensure that the practices benefit as many people as possible. Portsmouth was recently described as a “dental desert” by local MP, Stephen Morgan.

A report by the Association of Dental Groups revealed the extent of dentist shortages in the city. Portsmouth had the seventh lowest number of dentists per 100,000 people in the country at just 42.

Group manager at Dentistry For You, Liz Fernandez, confirmed that patients were now able to contact the new practices to register their interest. There have already been thousands of enquiries and local people have been keen to find out more and join the registers. Dentistry For You is “committed to the NHS,” Liz stated and the aim is to enable as many people as possible to access high-quality, affordable dental care.
