Dentist suspended for filming women

A dentist who used a hidden camera to film two young females undressing has been suspended.

Warren Gater, a 32 year old dentist from Dorset, was caught out after one of his victims noticed him acting suspiciously and fidgeting with his jacket. Mr Gater, who has recently married, was recording women changing and then uploading the material onto his computer at home. Gater has been using a camera resembling a pen, which was hidden in a bowl of pot-pourri, to film the women.

Gater admitted filming for several weeks and said he had filmed the women on at least four separate occasions.

Gater was found guilty of voyeurism by the judge at Weymouth Magistrate’s Court in March this year; the case was then referred to the General Dental Council and Gater was suspended yesterday. He will be suspended from the register for nine months.

At the GDC hearing, the panel heard how Mr Gater has strategically placed the camera in various places around the surgery to capture footage of the women getting changed. Nimi Bruce, who spoke on behalf of the GDC at the hearing, said that the victims felt violated and extremely angry when they found out.

Mr Gater blamed his behaviour on the death of his father and the stress of organising a wedding; his lawyer claimed that actions were out of character and said that Gater was committed to a career in dentistry. Stewart Goulding, chairman of the GDC panel, said that Gater’s actions were premeditated and condemned his behaviour, claiming that he had betrayed the trust placed in him.
