A new survey carried out by dentists in Brighton has highlighted bad teeth as a major turn off for daters.

Research conducted by the Dentelli Clinic found that more than a quarter of adults (26.4%) wouldn’t date somebody who had bad teeth.

The poll also showed that 25% of those surveyed weren’t happy with their teeth and 15% disliked the appearance of their smile.

Dr Martina Karlo, from the clinic, said that Brits have become more conscious of their smiles than ever due to the rise in popularity of video calls and virtual meetings and the influence of celebrity culture and reality TV. More and more people are taking steps to enhance their smiles, with dentists across the country reporting an increase in enquiries for treatments like adult braces, tooth whitening and veneers since the start of the pandemic.

Dr Karlo added that the survey findings support the notion that most people consider a healthy, bright smile one of the most attractive traits in a partner, with a quarter suggesting they wouldn’t even date somebody who didn’t have a nice smile.

The Dentelli Clinic has recently launched a new clinic in Split, Croatia in response to increased demand for cosmetic dentistry overseas. The clinic is designed to offer a safe alternative to providers that offer cheap deals abroad that have become synonymous with the phrase ‘Turkey teeth.’ Dental tourism is booming, but it can be problematic. Dental clinics up and down the UK have experienced an increase in patients needing remedial treatment after visiting clinics in countries like Turkey for dental treatment.
