Dentist offers patients transport, as well as dental treatment
A dentist from Chenago, Broome County, has bought a minibus so that patients can be transported to and from his dental clinic.
Dr Michael Wilson purchased the 15-seater bus to help patients who struggled to afford transport to the dental office, as well as those who did not have access to their own transport.
The bus will visit a number of communities to pick-up and drop-off patients.
Dr Wilson hopes that the bus will encourage patients to visit their dentist on a regular basis; the van will help those living in more rural areas and provide free transport for those who struggle to afford the bus or taxi fare.
Dr Wilson has paid for the van, which cost $19,000, out of his own pocket; he treats a large number of Medicaid patients and is aware of the struggles they face on a daily basis. Wilson Dental is the largest Medicaid provider in Broome County.
