A dentist from Eastern Panhandle has launched a new range of drinks to boost oral health.

Dr Kenneth Banks decided to combine his two loves, tea and dentistry, to come up with a new range of sweet tea drinks, which have benefits for oral health.

This year, Tropical Breeze Beverages, a small, family-owned company, launched the first product, Banks’s Sun Tea. The tea is made with naturally decaffeinated red bush tea, which is diffused with natural ingredients and xylitol. Xylitol is a natural, low calorie sweetener, which is a natural insulin stabiliser. The tea is completely free of artificial preservatives, colourants and additives.

Xylitol is the key ingredient of the tea; it has been proved to reduce the risk of decay by decreasing the amount of bacteria in the mouth. Xylitol is found naturally in some fruits and vegetables. Xylitol is also the only sweetener approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and the American Dental Association.

According to Dr Banks, the tea treats the causes of tooth decay, rather than acting to treat the condition itself.
