A Swindon dentist is replacing a local resident’s teeth for free after he lost them in a racist attack.

After reading about Javed Ashraf’s story in the newspaper, Stephen Tittensor, Ebenezer House Dental Practice owner, offered up his services free of charge.

Mr Ashraf, 47, was struck in the back of the head on Friday 27 November 2009 after being called a ‘Paki’ by three thugs.

He was knocked unconscious and was woken up by a girl called Emma who was holding his teeth, which had been smashed out when he hit the ground.

Cerys Cooper, practice manager, said that the staff at Ebenezer House were struck by Mr Ashraf’s terrible story when they red it in the paper so they decided to offer him free treatment as a Christmas goodwill gesture.

Mr Ashraf has been fitted with temporary false teeth. He will have these replaced in a year’s time when his gums recede.

He said that he was overjoyed and that he still couldn’t believe what has happened to him.

Thanking the dentist and the people of Swindon, who had wished him well, Mr Ashraf said his faith had been restored in the town.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the attack. If you have any information call PC Peter Smith on 0845 4087000.
