Dentist hailed as hero

A welsh dentist is being hailed a hero as she is attempting to raise money and awareness about mouth cancer by running a marathon.
On Sunday 18 October 2009 Dr Caron George will compete in the Cardiff Half Marathon to highlight the work done by the Mouth Cancer Foundation.
Wales Online reports that Dr George, who practices dentistry in Tongwynlais, has been training hard in the gym and running regularly to prepare herself for the half marathon.
The 24-year-old said that she was taking part in the marathon as a personal challenge and to raise awareness about the Mouth Cancer Foundation.
She added that mouth cancer has particularly high mortality rates as symptoms often go undetected until it is too late.
Dr Vinod Joshi, Mouth Cancer Foundation founder, called Caron an “inspiration” because she was undertaking such a “tough challenge” to raise funds for mouth cancer patients.
Nearly 8,000 British people are diagnosed with the mouth cancer every year.
