An Iowa dentist has received a $100,000 grant to help local communities.

Dr Arron McWilliams has been awarded a $100,000 from Fulfilling Iowa’s Need for Dentists (FIND) scheme, which aims to recruit dentists to serve local communities lacking in dental provision.

The money will be spent on clearing Dr McWilliams’s debt from education.

Donn Hutchins, of president of Delta Dental in Iowa, said that most dentists graduate with around $120,000 of educational debt.

He added that by offering to ease the financial strain through loan repayment schemes FIND hoped to attract private dentists to underserved, mainly rural, communities in the region.

Dr McWilliams, who qualified at the University of Iowa in 2002 and specialized in pediatric dentistry at the University of Nebraska in 2006, is being given $50,000 from Delta Dental, which is being matched by the Chamber and Development Council of Crawford County (CDCC).

Don Luensmann, CDCC executive director, said that the area was very fortunate to have dentist of Dr McWilliams talents to address the communities’ needs.
