Dentist found guilty of sexual assault

A dentist has been found guilty of sexual assault, following a week-long trial in Manchester.

Roger Klein, from Lymm, Cheshire, was arrested following allegations by a female patient. The patient claimed that Klein had thrown himself on top of her, made inappropriate comments and tried to kiss her repeatedly at her home last April. The incident came to an abrupt end when the victim fell off the bed, the jury heard.

Mr Klein, who is 41 and married had already been cautioned by the General Dental Council and was prohibited from working alone with female colleagues and patients. He denied the allegations made by his patient, saying that she had propositioned him and he had rebuffed her advances, saying that he was a happily married man.

The female patient said she was shocked and disgusted at Mr Klein’s behaviour; she claimed that she had no interest in him and had not lead him on in any way. She claimed that she told him to ‘think of his wife’ while he tried to kiss her and lie on top of her. The court also heard that the dentist had attended an event with the patient after the alleged incident; after Mr Klein had taken the patient home he sent her a number of text messages apologising for his unacceptable behaviour and begging for her forgiveness.

After a week-long trial at Manchester Crown Court, the jury found Mr Klein, of Regent Cosmetic Dental Practice in Knutsford, guilty. Judge Martin Rudland ordered the dentist to be remanded in custody until September; he may then face a jail sentence. Mr Klein’s case will also be referred to the General Dentistry Council and the dentist may be struck off.
