Albany local, Sherry Branch, has stated that she has struggled to find a suitable and understanding dentist for her 4-year-old Down syndrome daughter.

Sherry said that she visited her local professional who had to strap her daughter down in order for her to receive dental treatment. This resulted in the young girl arriving home feeling frustrated and covered in bruises. When her brother tried to help he was ordered to sit down by the dentist. Sherry also claims that she wasn’t informed about the intended treatments.

However, there is some light at the end of the tunnel! Sherry recently discovered a very understanding and caring dentist, Dr Annie Edwards-Howard.

Her son recently paid a visit to Dr Annie and said she was friendly and the treatments didn’t hurt. And so Sherry decided to bring her daughter with special needs.

Sherry stated that Dr Annie treated her daughter with love and compassion and because of this she no longer fears the dentist and doesn’t worry about being strapped down during treatment. She finally went on to say that it’s important for a dentist to understand the needs of a child, especially those with learning difficulties and special needs.
