A dentist faces disciplinary action after his ex-girlfriend accused him of stalking her.

Alan Beck, from Dundonald, was given a restraining order but continued to linger around his ex-girlfriend’s house; the dentist also bombarded her with text messages and cards. Last June, Mr Beck was banned from going within 50 metres of his ex-girlfriend, Diana Rae’s house; just four days after the restraining order was issued, Beck was spotted near to Ms Rae’s house and was chased away by a concerned neighbour. Shortly after that incident, Beck was again seen walking close to Ms Rae’s house and he was arrested by police; he was given a suspended three month jail sentence for breaching the restraining order.

Mr Beck has subsequently left his surgery after the bad press affected business; he admitted that he had acted “irrationally”. His lawyer said he regretted that incidents and was sorry for the upset he had caused his former girlfriend.

The General Dental Council will now decide whether Beck should be allowed to remain on the dental register; if they believe the incidents could affect his ability to practice, he will face being struck off. Sandesh Singh from the GDC said that Mr Beck’s actions, his lack of regard for Ms Rae and the continuous breach of legal restrictions had brought the profession into disrepute. The GDC are expected to announce their ruling in the near future.
