Dentist celebrates Thanksgiving by hosting free clinic
A dentist from Chilliocothe, Ohio hosted a free dental clinic to celebrate Thanksgiving and bring some holiday cheer to the local community.
Dr Bryan Basom hosted a free dental clinic on Wednesday; throughout the day, he offered basic dental care to anyone who walked through the doors of his practice. Dr Basom, from Magnolia Dental, hosted the event to give something back to the community and help people in difficult times.
Dr Basom said that a large number of people who came to the free clinic had not been to the dentist in a long time because they could not afford regular dental appointments. Most of the patients earned more than the threshold which would afford them financial assistance; as a result, they did not have enough money to pay for dental treatment and did not qualify for any help.
One person waited in the car from 4.30 am in the morning to ensure she could get an appointment when the doors opened at 8 am. She was able to get a slot and received treatment for a severely decayed tooth and numerous cavities.
Dr Basom opened the practice in April and has vowed to run the free clinic every year to help local people and promote good oral health.
