A dentist accused of sexually harassing a female colleague is facing a General Dental Council hearing.

Raymond Pomroy, a 64 year old dentist from Suffolk has been accused of sexual harassment by a female technician, who worked alongside him at the Felixstowe Dental Laboratory. The woman, who is known as Miss A claimed that Mr Pomroy has pestered her to attend swingers’ parties and made indecent comments about her appearance; Miss A, who is originally from Poland, said she had no idea what a swinger’s party was and thought he was inviting her to a dance.

Miss A, who is a devout Catholic, also accused Mr Pomroy of telling her that he had dreamt about her body and claimed he said she would ‘look good in a leather skirt’. Giving evidence at the GDC hearing yesterday, Miss A said she was shocked when she found out what a swingers’ party was; she also claimed that the dentist continued to pester her even when she told him she was not interested. Miss A resigned earlier this year after Mr Pomroy refused to pay her overtime and holiday pay.

At the time of the alleged incident, Mr Pomroy was in a relationship with another colleague, known as Mrs B. Another female colleague, known as Mrs C, was also working at the practice at the time; Mrs C met Miss A before she left to go on maternity leave. Miss A had left when Mrs C returned to work but she told the GDC panel that she never heard any indecent comments and had never experienced any problems with Mr Pomroy. She also said that Mr Pomroy and Mrs B kept their relationship very professional and claimed that he had been very helpful when she was struggling to get used to life in the UK. When questioned by Mr Pomroy’s lawyer, Mrs C said the dentist had never spoken to her inappropriately or suggested that she attend a swingers’ party with him.

Mr Pomroy denies sexual, inappropriate behaviour but he admitted to ringing Miss A’s boyfriend; he left a message saying that the allegations could cost him his career. The hearing continues.
