A teenager who is facing murder charges will have dental X-rays to confirm his age.

Mahdi Ali is facing three counts of murder following an incident at a small convenience store in the Minneapolis area; Ali allegedly murdered three men at the Seward Market on January the 6th this year. Ali had allegedly been planning to steal money from the store along with some friends but had started shooting once the situation got out of hand.

Ali’s defence say he was only 15 at the time but his exact age is not known and prosecutors believe the boy was 16; if he was 16, rather than 15, he could face a life sentence. If Ali was only 15 he will be tried as a juvenile and will receive a more lenient punishment.

Ali’s friend, Ahmed Shire Ali has also been charged with three counts of first degree murder; he has been judged as an adult even though he was 17 at the time of shooting in January. He has been given an 18 year jail sentence.

Dental X-rays and records will now be used to confirm Mahdi Ali’s age and the case will continue once this information has been obtained.
