Dental technician pressured to accompany boss to swinging parties

A dental technician has told a misconduct hearing that she was repeatedly pressured to attend swinger’s parties with her male boss.

The woman involved in the case is Polish and had little understanding of the concept of a swingers’ party; originally she presumed her boss, Mr Raymond Pomroy, was inviting her to attend some kind of dancing class. The dental technician, who is being referred to as Ms A for legal reasons, said her boss pestered her to attend the parties with him and told her she wouldn’t have to participate straight away.

Ms A, who is a devout Catholic, said she felt extremely uncomfortable around her boss, who also revealed to her that he had dreamt about her body and told her that she would look attractive if she wore a short leather skirt.

The dental technician came to England four years ago and started working for Mr Pomroy at the Cobbold Road Laboratory in Felixstowe in March 2008. Mr Pomroy allegedly began talking about swinging shortly after; he made sure that other colleagues were out of earshot whilst talking to Ms A about the parties. Mr Pomroy told his employee that the parties were aimed at wealthy, well-educated people but Ms A rebuffed the invitations and claimed she was shocked by her boss’s advances.

Over the course of the next few months, Mr Pomroy allegedly pestered Ms A about the parties and she began to feel increasingly uncomfortable. She was scared to go to work and her weight plummeted. Her boyfriend, Lukasz Skowronek, said that his girlfriend became “terrified” by going to work and he felt angered and appalled by the situation.

Ms A has now taken the case to the General Dental Council, who will listen to the evidence and both parties’ stories and then decide an appropriate course of action. Mr Pomroy denies the charges and says he never mentioned leather skirts to Ms A or put pressure on her to attend swinging parties.
