A dental team from the North West is preparing to climb the heights of the UK’s highest mountain, in order to raise money for charity.

Four dentists from the Synergy dental practices are training in preparation for a physical challenge to raise money for Bridge2Aid, a charity, which provides basic dental care and training for dental workers in Tanzania.

Dr Zuber Bagasi, founder of the Synergy group, will be joined by Dr Imran Chaddat and Dr Ramki Ginagunta from his Bury practice. He will also be joined by Dr Ai Ling Lim, from his Bolton practice.

The dentists are not experienced climbers but have been training and working with a sports therapist in preparation for the challenge, which involves climbing 4,409 feet. The trek will take place on the 31st August. The group will have an experienced climber on hand in order to help raise their fundraising target of £5,000.

Bridge2Aid has been working in a rural area of Tanzania for more than ten years and in that time, hundreds of volunteers from the UK have taken part in training schemes to transfer their skills over to dental workers there. The aim is to train as many people as possible to improve access to dental care and to educate them about oral hygiene and health.

Dr Bagasi said that here, in the UK, we take dental care for granted and don’t consider how beneficial it is to be able to see a dentist as soon as you experience pain or you suffer a dental injury.

In Tanzania there are very few trained dentists and routine dental care does not really exist. The money raised by the dentists will help to support the ongoing projects in Tanzania.
