A dental practice based in a supermarket in Rushmere is offering free routine check-ups to mark a year in business.

Staff members from The Centre for Dentistry, which is located within the Sainsbury’s store in Rushmere, have been offering shoppers a free dental check to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the opening of the surgery.

Receptionist Kristina Moore, said that initially, many people were surprised to hear about a dental surgery opening in a supermarket, but people have quickly come around to the idea and recognise the benefits of extended opening hours, and the convenience of being able to do a shop and see a dentist in the same trip. A year on and the practice is very popular.

Ms Moore said that being in a familiar setting, which is less daunting than the traditional dental surgery, helps many patients, especially children, to feel more relaxed. Parking is also free and widely available and there are no concerns with access for disabled patients.

Elizabeth McElroy, the practice manager, said that the surgery has been a great success because of the support of local people. The practice caters for the needs of patients of all ages and with flexible opening hours, patients are now able to attend their dental appointments without worrying about taking time off work or arranging child care.
