Sample News Big

Members of the Designed to Smile team in Wales are celebrating, after achieving their qualifications.

The dental nurses in the team gained their Fluoride Varnish Application Certificate, while the dental health support workers gained their Foundation Certificate in Oral Health Promotion.

The qualifications will enable the dental nurses to apply fluoride varnish and the oral health support workers to offer oral health advice to children and adults in the area.

Designed to Smile is an oral health programme funded by the Welsh Government. The aim of the programme is to reduce rates of decay among children and encourage adults and children to adopt good oral hygiene habits. Preventative services and oral health education are integral parts of the mission to reduce the prevalence of oral health diseases and improve standards of oral health across Wales.

The courses for dental nurses and oral health support workers are the first of their kind in Wales and were launched to expand the skills of the oral health team. The oral health team can now provide a range of useful services and offer advice and information to parents, children and carers to try and tackle the problem of poor oral health and help people to enjoy good dental health.
