Dental Tattoo could Flag Up Early Warning for Tooth Decay

Sample News Big

Scientists in America are developing a new tooth tattoo, which could flag up extremely early signs of decay.

The tattoo, which is grapheme-based, comprises a chemical sensor, which is able to identify early warning signs of decay and convey the information to dentist via wireless technology. Early detection and treatment prevents decay from spreading, reducing the risk of damage to the teeth, cavities and gums.

The tattoo device is being developed by a team of researchers at Princeton University and uses the same technology as electronic key cards.

The research paper was published in the journal, Nature Communications, last week.

Researchers believe that the device is an innovative and effective means of monitoring health from within the body, however, it is not yet known whether the device can withstand pressure from brushing and further tests will be carried out in due course.
