Dental Surgery Ceiling Caves After Heavy Downpours in Scotland

Heavy and persistent downpours and snow showers have caused chaos in Helensburgh, Scotland.

Two buses were stranded at either end of a road is Farslane as a ‘weather bomb’ hit the area, causing torrential rain and localised flooding. The A814 was closed, causing chaos for commuters trying to get home from work and many drivers were forced to sit in their cars for hoursas roads were closed and diversions were put into place.

The ceiling of a local dental practice in West Clyde Street also caved in following the flash of rain, which caused the gutters surrounding the surgery roof to collapse.

An amber warning for heavy rain and high winds had been issued by the Met Office. This followed warnings for flooding around the coast at the start of the new year from the Environmental Protection Agency.

A spokesman for Argyll and Bute Council said that rain was expected and insisted that the council was prepared and members were on hand to help out. Local businesses were advised to use sandbags and workers were on hand to help out with problems on the roads.

The road was closed at Farslane due to blockages in the culverts and there are now plans in place to clear the sediment from the culverts to reduce the risk of further flooding in the future.
