Dental Surgeon Killed in Megabus Crash

A dental surgeon was recently killed in a devastating crash in Illinois, USA. The 25-year-old, Aditi Avhad was killed when the double-decker Megabus crashed into a bridge support on the 1st August.

Aditi Avhad, a student from the University of Missouri in Columbia, had studied at the Nair Hospital and Dental College in Mumbai. She had worked in two dental posts, before moving to the USA to start a Master’s degree in Health Administration.

The Indian student was sitting above the driver when the coach crashed. Her parents were visiting from Mumbai at the time but they were not harmed in the crash and Ms Avhad was confirmed as the only mortality.

Ms Avhad was just two week’s away from starting the second year of her postgraduate studies and she was excited to have her parents visiting from India. Many of her friends have paid tribute to her and she has been described as hard working, studious and a very gentle, caring person.

More than 48 people were taken to hospital for checks following the incident and 30 ambulances attended the scene, along with 10 medical helicopters and several police cars and fire engines.

Illinois State Police Trooper, Doug Francis, said that it was believed that a tyre had blown, which caused the bus to swerve off-course as the driver lost control.
