Dental students from the Peninsula Dental School have presented a cheque for £100 to a local charity.

Tracy De Peralta, a professor at the dental school, established The Rayna DiModica Contribution to Society Award in memory of her mother. The award is designed to recognise the best community projects attended by second year students at the school. The winning students receive a plaque and a cheque for £100 to donate to the charity of their choice.

The winning group of students, who participated in a project involving oral health and the elderly, decided to present the cheque to The Elder Tree, a charity that provides support and companionship to vulnerable and lonely elderly people in the Plymouth area.

The group worked with The Elder Tree and Plymouth Age Concern during their project, to try and provide dental care, as well as emotional support and friendship, to older people in the local area.

The victorious students were Davinder Dhanjal, Ann Duro, Hardeep Sidhu, Milin Damani, Harbinder Dewgun, Narinderjeet Thanjal and Carianne Stokes.
