A dental student from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, has won $123,000 in a half-time challenge at a football game.

Casey Vidovich won the scholarship money from the Dr Pepper drinks company after throwing nine out of ten footballs into a 2 foot diameter Dr Pepper can; the challenge took place during the halftime show at the Virginia Tech-Florida State Atlantic Coast Conference game.

Vidovich, who is 23, said he was delighted to win the amazing prize; he said that his mum has found it difficult to find the money to pay for his college fees and this cash injection has come as a very welcome surprise.

Vidovich was encouraged to take part in the Dr Pepper Million Dollar Tuition Giveaway by his mum; she saw the advert and encouraged her son to film a one minute video explaining why he thought he should be given the opportunity to win the scholarship money. The company asked entrants to create a one minute video, which must mention Dr Pepper.

The money will pay for half of the four year dentistry course.
