Alice Hamilton, who hails from the north east, will have the opportunity to showcase her skills in a UK-wide competition run by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

After coming out on top of the dental skills competition’s regional heat, Ms Hamilton is set to represent Aberdeen University in the finals this spring.

The 25-year-old went head to head with everyone in her year group and was given the task of cutting down a front tooth.

Ms Hamilton said she surprised to win as everyone in her year is very skilled, but feels happy to have gained recognition for her clinical work.

She found the heat challenging as she was competing against her peers at Aberdeen Dental School, but said the competition has helped her to hone her skills through self-appraisal and practice and it has boosted her confidence.

Although she’s not sure what to expect for the finals in March, Ms Hamilton looks forward to the challenge. She is delighted to represent Aberdeen University and will be up against students from up and down the country.

General Manager of sponsors DENTSPLY UK and Ireland, Oliver Collet, said the competition will be a fun but challenging test of clinical dental skills.
