Dental Student Planning to Swap Colchester for Uganda

Sample News Big

A student dental nurse is planning to swap Colchester for Uganda, to help people living in some of the world’s poorest communities.

Pippa Tippett from Great Tey is currently in her second year of training at the Colchester Institute and is on placement at Highwoods and St John’s Dental Practice. However, she is soon planning to leave her home comforts to visit Uganda for ten days.

Pippa said that the adventure will be an amazing learning experience for her, as well as an opportunity to help those in need. During the 10 day visit, Pippa will be helping to give pain relief and assisting dentists.

Pippa is planning to go with Christian Relief Uganda and has a fundraising target of £1,500. She is also embarking on a cycle challenge from Colchester to Clacton on Saturday.

Pippa will be part of team that will be providing oral health education, as well as pain relief and treatment. Education is very poor in Uganda and most people know very little about oral hygiene. The team will be talking to people about how to take care of their teeth and gums and their visit will hopefully help to prevent people from suffering from dental pain in the future.

Anyone who wants to donate money to help fund Pippa’s trip can visit her sponsorship page and all donations will be gratefully received.

Good idea. But how long will Africa continue to reign in the jungle of poverty? It hurts me at times. Notwithstanding, kudos to those who still always remember there is a continent called Africa. Peace.
