A talented student is juggling final year studies in dentistry with intense training in order to be fit for the Rio Olympics later this year. Karl Batorski, who is currently in his final year at Queen Mary University, London, is hoping to represent Great Britain in Brazil this summer.

Karl, 27, has been training hard and hopes to secure a spot on the team. He has been swimming competitively for more than 15 years and has represented Harlow Penguins for several years.

Born in South Africa, Karl moved to the UK when he was 11 years old. As a boy, he trained with Wayne Ridden, head coach of the national swimming team in South Africa and was determined to succeed in the sport from a young age.

Karl is now preparing for the Olympic trials in April and is hoping to secure a place at this year’s games. If he doesn’t succeed, he has already pledged to train hard to get a spot at the 2020 games.

The dental student has received great support from his local club and is also sponsored by Abbotts Dental Practice.
