A dental society has donated $25,000 to a local children’s centre to help children with severe dental conditions.

The Essex County Dental Health Society presented staff from the John McGivney Children’s Centre with the generous donation earlier this month. The money will now be used to buy new dental equipment and carry out refurbishment work at the clinic to make it more appealing for the children.

The money will also enable the centre to run interdisciplinary clinics, which provide assessment and treatment services for children with severe dental health conditions, including cleft lip and palate, severe dental problems and craniofacial syndromes. The dental room will also be named after the Essex County Dental Health Society.

Ilona Schentag, director of development at the centre, said the cheque was a huge surprise and thanked the society for the extremely generous donation.

Dr Domenico Aversa, president of the society, said that the society was proud to support the centre and praised the work they do to help children with serious health problems. Dr Aversa said the John McGivney centre was providing children with a safe and friendly environment and provided the best possible standards of care.
