Dental school opens the doors for new applicants

The East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine has finally opened after four years of planning.

The official application process was launched yesterday and staff at the school believe students will be desperate to log on and complete their application. The opening of the school has been eagerly anticipated by both staff and prospective students and hundreds of applications are expected to flood in.

The admissions page on the school’s website has received over ten thousand hits and students have spoken about their excitement at the prospect of being amongst the first intake of students. The first class is set to being in autumn next year and will consist of fifty students.

The new dental school will also provide outreach programmes for rural communities; currently, East Carolina ranks poorly in terms of the number of dentists per capita and it is hoped that the school will improve access to local services in the area.
