Dental Scheme Helps Sheffield Student Secure His Dream Job

A dental scheme has helped Sheffield student, Lee Del Rosso, secure his dream job.

Lee was one of the first students to get involved in the Access to Dental Occupations- Practice and Tutoring course, which was set up to encourage more students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue careers in dentistry.

Lee joined the course after completing his A-levels in 2007 and recently graduated from the University of Sheffield with a degree in Dental Hygiene and Therapy. He has successfully secured his dream job and will start his new role, as a dental therapist at a dental practice in Pontefract, in September.

The programme is designed to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds and encourage them to consider dentistry as a career choice; figures indicated that applications for such careers typically came from students from more affluent backgrounds and the scheme has helped to change this.

Lee, who is originally from Nottingham, said that he was nervous about going to university because he was the first member of his family to do so; he was convinced by the course and is now really happy that he took the plunge and is looking forward to starting his new job next month.
