A 34-year old breast cancer survivor is gearing up to pound the pavements of Leeds this weekend to raise money for Coppafeel, a breast cancer charity that aims to raise awareness of the disease.

Rhyan Fritzel was 31 years old when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and has since undergone surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. She has already completed a number of fundraising events and challenges and is easily distinguished from the masses as she runs in a giant boob costume. The 34 year old, who works as a sales representative for dental supplier TP Orthodontics in Morley, said that at first she felt slightly self-conscious about the outfit. However, now it’s part of her fundraising activities and she’s proud to wear it to get people talking and raise awareness of breast cancer.

Rhyan will be taking part in the Plusnet Leeds Half Marathon in the city centre this Sunday with the goal of encouraging women to be aware of the symptoms and signs of breast cancer and to get any lumps or bumps checked out.

Rhyan has already raised thousands of pounds for charity and she plans to carry on. As well as taking part in charity runs and organising events, Rhyan also visits schools and universities as part of an awareness campaign run by the charity. Coppafeel is particularly concerned with younger women. Although rates of breast cancer are higher in women aged over 40 years old, there are many cases diagnosed in younger women and it’s important for women of all ages to be aware of potential warning signs.
