A University of Nebraska dentistry researcher has been given a $720,000 grant.

Greg Oakley, who is based at the university’s College of Dentistry in Omaha, was awarded the funding by American Cancer Society.

He is currently researching techniques which will make chemotherapy more successful by researching damaged DNA and self-repairing of cells.

By researching which cells are damaged by chemo, Oakley wants to establish that targeting Replication Protein A can help fix healthy cells which have been harmed by cancer.

Oakley joined the University of Nebraska four years ago from University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he began this research in 1996.
