Dental records have been used to confirm the body of missing oil executive Carole Waugh.

Police confirmed that they found a body in the back of a car in a lock-up in New Malden last week. The body was badly decomposed and dental records were required to confirm the identity of Ms Waugh. Police later issued a statement saying that the body was Carole Waugh, who was reported missing by relatives on the 7th May.

Initially, the police believed that Waugh was still alive but had not been in contact with loved ones. However, they became increasingly suspicious when money was taken out of her accounts and expensive items of jewellery were taken from her flat in Marylebone.

Police believe at this stage, a single stab wound killed Ms Waugh. However, further tests are being carried out to determine the exact cause of death and establish what happened in the days leading up to her disappearance. Although Carole was not reported missing until the 7th May, it is suspected that she may have disappeared in April.

DI Rees, from the Met Homicide Command, said that officers had become suspicious after noticing transactions from Waugh’s bank accounts and further investigations lead them to arrest several people, in connection with fraud related to Ms Waugh’s flat. Subsequent investigations lead police to garages in New Malden and the body was discovered in a Volkswagen Golf. Due to the state of the body, dental records were used to confirm the identity. The family have been informed that they will have to wait to organise the funeral until further tests have been conducted, which will confirm the cause of death.
