A dentist receptionist claimed she was forced out of her job after colleagues discovered she was having an affair with another member of staff.

Tanya Henderson, twenty-one, had started having a secret affair with her married colleague, Mr Alamain Salim; he was married but did not see his wife very often because she lived abroad. However, when Mr Salim’s wife returned to the UK and started to visit the Riverside Dental Practice located in Caversham, Berkshire on a regular basis. Mr Salim allegedly told Ms Henderson that he was concentrating on rebuilding his marriage and their relationship would have to stop.

By this time, colleagues had become suspicious of the pair and they started to victimise Ms Henderson, according to the former receptionist. Ms Henderson became the butt of practical jokes and at one time, a colleague uploaded pornography onto her computer; when the imagery appeared, the practice owner Changiz Fahami told Ms Henderson she looked too youthful to be looking at the images and gave a slap to her head.

Mr Fahami claims the affair caused a lot of problems amongst staff at the surgery and it is claimed he told Mr Salim that either he or Ms Henderson must leave the practice. Ms Henderson finally left her job last February following an argument with the dental executive, Fay Allingham.

The tribunal has confirmed that Ms Henderson was unfairly dismissed and she has agreed a private settlement with Riverside Dental Practice.
