Dental patients set to benefit from free parking in Mutley

Dental patients in Mutley, Plymouth, are set to benefit from an extension of free parking benefits at two central locations.

Under new guidelines, two of the area’s public car parks will be offering three hours of free parking for shoppers and patients attending GP and dental appointments.

The move is designed to boost footfall and support traders on Mutley Plain after what has been a very difficult year due to the pandemic. Free parking will also enable patients who have driven to see their GP or dentist to attend appointments without worrying about paying for parking.

Previously, the car parks at Mutley Barracks and Napier Terrace offered two hours of free parking but allowances have been expanded to enable shoppers, patients and visitors to park for three hours without paying.

Councillor Jonathan Drean said that extending free parking to three hours will help local traders and encourage shoppers to come to the town centre. Mutley is popular among locals but the aim is to attract residents from other parts of Plymouth and further afield to boost trade. The extension will also help to promote health and wellbeing by making it easier for patients to access GP and dental appointments and visit local pharmacies.

Drivers can access free parking for three hours across the whole of the surface level of Mutley Barracks car park and on the upper tier of the Napier Terrace multi-storey. Cashless payments can be made via an app.
