Dental nurses react angrily to fee increase

Dental nurses have reacted angrily after the General Dental Council announced it was increasing the annual registration fee. The fee will increase to £120 per year from July next year.

President of the British Association of Dental Nurses, Sue Bruckel, said that she was outraged by the announcement. The average wage for a dental nurse is £15,000 per year and dental nurses are the lowest paid members of the professional dental team; however, Bruckel feels they are being targeted by the GDC because the organisation is trying to cut costs.

Sue Bruckel said it was ridiculous to expect dental nurses to pay £120 every year just to be able to practise and condemned GDC President Alison Lockyear for claiming that the orgainsation was committed to providing members with value for money.

The BADN will now discuss the price increase with members and decide on an appropriate course of action.
